Pray for Ang
Well yesterday I picked Ang up for her two days off and her first day today, she got called for her first 'off-forest' assignment. She's been waiting for this but really wanted her two days off and was tired. At least she got to see the kids off to their first day of school this morning. Went great.
She has gone with a strike team of 3-4 engines and a handcrew and heading to the Barrell Fire. From the NIFC site the official latest report is : Barrel (Northern California Resource Area, Bureau of Land Management): 7,000 acres at an unknown percent contained. This fire is 13 miles northeast of Fort Bidwell. Heavy fine fuel loading, rugged terrain, winds and low relative humidity are hampering containment efforts. Extreme rates of spread, spotting, downhill runs and fire whirls were observed. That report tells me this is some rough terrain and bad conditions. I saw the fire double in size in no time and even found a report that it was 14,000 acres. This location is right at the California, Oregon, Nevada juncture in nasty area. Ang has a great crew she trusts and Ang is very safety conscious all the time (she has to be as the EMT on the engine). So keep her in your thoughts. I probably won't see her for a couple of weeks minimum.
Kids love their classes so far and have great attitudes towards this school year. I'll get some early morning off-to-school pictures up soon. Emily starts her first soccer practice tomorrow; haven't heard from Sam's coach yet. Did you know Sam is wearing a men's 13 shoe now!!!!!!! 2 sizes bigger than me. I have my 2 classes on Tues/Thurs in Weed in the pre-noon hours. Got an A in my summer history course and just heard they approved my submission so this will be my last semester and will have an AA in Social Science. I could still take one more class next semester and also get an AA in Anthropology but we'll see. I'm looking to hit the job market again soon so who knows whats in store for the Buck.
