No Labor for this Day

Veggin all weekend. Working around the house and garden. Emily has been spending the night with a friend of hers who is Karuk Indian. What a doll she is. Emily spent the night there last night and so, as usually happens, the next night is over here, which is tonight. I don't care, whatever to have some fun. I'm watching drag racing and cant keep the tube off of Katrina coverage all weekend. Spaghetti tonight witha sauce which I add meatballs and garlic-sauteed zuchinni from the garden. Awesome taste and the kids love it. One great thing about having a garden always is the kids have grown up loving veggies. Have you seen the movie Supersize Me? Great docu about Fast Food (especially Micky Dees), obesity in America, and health in general. Pretty eye opening how our country has become so fast food and less good healthy homecooking. Our kids and their future are the ones who will suffer. I made my kids watch it to maybe open their eyes to how corporate America controls many of our ideas about life and living. And to kids...their helpless to the onslaught from tv and ads.

Boring weekend but very relaxing. Hard sometimes to just do nothing when life is so fast paced today. Sometimes we need to just let our bodies do nothing, dive inwards, and melt away into a world of pure fantasy and illusion. Think thats why sci-fi, fantasy, has always been my favorite genre: escape to a different world; live a different life; escaping from any troubles and problems as the words trickle by; a good book can take you anywhere you want and lets your imagination complete the visuals; all the while still retaining a bit back in this world. Escape / Knowledge / Emotion / whatever you want or could envision you can find within a book. And if you cannot find that perfect place for your thoughts we always have the opportunity to write our own little book and create our own escape and maybe share the escape with others who read it.
