November

November is here and now almost gone. I'm bored on a graveyard shift and decided to babble a few minutes and update family and friends on anything new, which isn't much.

Samuel has finished his Cross Country season and it went great. He really enjoyed the season and it was his first season running the long distances of cross country. He handled it, literally, in stride. The season was marred by the unexpected death of one runner from their time while at an event. Chris Lopez will be in our hearts forever. At the awards event at the end of the season Samuel won the first annual Chris Lopez award. It was touching and brought those tears to my eyes. I hate crying in public but, man, I almost lost it a few times that night. Again, Sam's latest report card was a perfect 4.0 with all As. So proud of you Sam!

Emily has been doing great as well. She did not do any sports this season but really helped out by doing a lot of mom and my chores around the house. These always are welcome and really help us out. Her grades weren't quite as 'noteworthy' but she is trying hard and I expect great improvement next report card. She is constantly lost texting on her phone, listening to music, or surfing the net.

Angie and I have both been busy at work. Angie's dispatch has slowed down a tiny bit with fire season over but still being the central 911 center in the county for medicals they remain at a constant business. The holidays always mean a little more business here at the police department as people have a little more time off, depression, families visiting, etc. Stupidity is a constant.

Angie, Emily, and I watched the first Twilight movie at home the other night and I was surprisingly impressed. Really good movie. So good I'm thinking about grabbing the first book from my daughter's collection and reading it. I loved the other book by the same author, The Host, but hadn't considered her other books, thinking they were too teenage oriented for me. Think I'm going to give em a go.

The wood stove is in full use now that the cold has permanently found a home. Cleaned the flu yesterday. We have a beautiful supply of wood this year that is burning great so far. The house stays at a constant 74-78 degrees regardless of the weather outside. So nice! Anxiously waiting for some snow on our local slopes so I can get back to some great snowboarding. Mt Ashland and Mt Shasta are both less than 30 min away and so find me on their slopes quite often. This year will be no different as Gordon Metz, an old high school friend, and me have been recently reunited (on my backpacking trip...write up a few blogs ago) and we have promised to do some snow carving together. He lives in Medford, Oregon area which is only 45 min away so we plan on having some fun together.

Other activities--lets see. Games I've been playing include Fallen Earth, the very old Star Wars Galaxies (for my first time believe it or not), Allods Online (a Russian MMO), Borderlands, Torchlight, and soon the latest Call of Duty--Modern Warfare 2, getting rave reviews.

Trying to keep the excercise up but having a hard time lately. Still haven't smoked a cigarrette since my backpacking trip and I feel so glad I've kicked that habit. Cold weather and only 1 vehicle makes it hard to get out and excercise, I'm kind of hoping for a stationary bike for xmas so I can stay at home and get some cardio while watching some tv. Angie still has been keeping in great shape, still looks as beautiful as ever, and continues to make me proud (and keep me in line). We have our 20th anniversary coming up in February! I can't believe we've been married that long. Of course with the passing years it means I also will be 42 next month. Who cares!! I still feel like I'm 20, physically and mentally.

Nothing fancy planned for this Thanksgiving. I am working graveyards 24th, 25th, and 26th. We aren't going anywhere and don't have anyone coming to visit. We decided to make it real easy for all of us this year and pre-bought our dinner at Raleys. Turkey, stuffing, veggies, gravy, potatoes, and more all ready to eat at pickup on Thanksgiving day.

We've made a good dent in our xmas shopping already this year. The kids lists aren't too extravagant and we've got most of the big items already taken care of. The only thing left is a trip to Medford this weekend to finish things off and gather the smaller items. I work a graveyard xmas eve but still hoping to hop on down to Sacramento area to my uncle's house xmas day to visit a short time with my dad, coming from Alabama and my sister who now lives in that area now. Initially blew it off as undoable because of me working that night before and Angie having to work the day after. Now I'm hoping Angie can get the 26th off and we can make the trip. Here's hoping!

Football season has been great, giving me plenty to watch. 49ers have been disappointing but I just like watching a great game, whoever is playing. Other things I regularly watch this season (all recorded and watched at my leisure): V, Full Throttle Saloon, Top Chef, Survivor, Star Gate Universe, Girls Next Door, Fringe, and a couple others I can't think of. I'm a sucker for series on DVD and prices are usually great. I mean, a whole season of some show for $20. That's a steal in my book, don't have to wait for the next week episode, etc. With that said, I just finished the last and 10th season of Star Gate SG-1 and have now started Star Gate Atlantis and am on season 2. Also started Roswell, still on season 1. I love my sci-fi!

So this turned out a helluva lot longer than I expected to babble and my guys just made an arrest on a couple of warrants so I'd better get on my way. Happy Thanksgiving to everyone and I hope you have as many things to be thankful for as I do!
