What's Up?
Not much, or too much. Crazy, hot summer just whizzing by. Getting ready for our big Siskiyou County Fair the 10th-14th. Been working for extra 'fair' cash so the kids are going to end their summer with a great week. The fairgrounds are walking distance from the house and I got the kids all-day ride tickets. I like just checking out all the eye candy and people coming out of the woods from everywhere!
Ang's engine is now on, what they call, off-forest rotation. That means the next out-of-state assignment goes to them and she could be leaving any day to who knows where. We had a fire in a field just one street away a week ago. Pretty scary and the kids were really freaked out. You could see the flames from the house in some trees and the wind was really going nuts. Had a chopper do some drops and fly right over the house. Anyway, our great local firefighters got it quick with no property damage.
The whole family headed to Lake Siskiyou a few days ago and spent the day swimming in the beautiful lake. Sage was with us and swam until she cold barely walk back to the car. Of course the perfect day ended on the way out of the lake when Emily got stung by a big black bumble bee in the finger while we were driving on this narrow road. Screams and shrieks erupted as Sam almost leaped out of the moving car to get away from his sis and Emily was this big Mexican jumping bean strapped into a straight jacket by the seat belt. Quite the drama but we all survived with smiles and laughs.
Summer school session is over. My one class, Us History up to 1877, got an A. Back to school in the Fall in just about my last semester of schooling. My GI Bill runs out next year and I'm trying to get 2 AA before then. The bad thing is that the classes I have to take are all classroom classes and in Weed (about 25 minute drive south). Pretty expensive trip for 3-4 days a week. I may have to get a bus pass for the season. Plus winter driving can be gnarly and Weed sits right beneath the awesome shadow of Mount Shasta and gets incredible snow in the winter. Of course that also means snowboarding on the mountain, too. I may try getting a job at the ski area just for some extra cash and a free pass.
Kids start back up in school 24th. Yeah!!! John, Christy's John (there's like 4 on Ang's side) sent the kids the most awesome hand crafted backpacks form Iraq. Names in English and Arabic, scorpions on the pockets, and Iraq Operation Freedom Kirkuk embrooidered on the back. Also sent a nice Iraqi currency collection both paper and coin, and some beautiful bracelets! Packs are gonna be a big pride thing for the kids when they bring them to school, especially Emily. The packs are incredible and awesome. Thanks John. You should be getting a note from both of them soon. Emily is always asking or talking about Christy. She loves her aunt!
Work for me? who knows. Real old in the heat of the summer, I tell you! Grass doesn't grow great or people just don't water enough and my business has slowed a lot. And of course I'm still trying to nurse my mower through this season hoping for something to pop up. Can't look too seriously as long as I am still going to school but I'm already starting my networking and see who's gonna want my extreme talents.
All right, way overboard tonight but of course, mother, when i don't write on this for a few days wonders where I'm at so thought I would write a quick update while I'm feeling nice late at night. Stay cool everyone and pray for Ang and safe, big overtime fires.

Has been in the 103 to 108 lately so we took off for the mountains. What a delight. Temperatures in the 70's, lots of thunder in the afternoons with just enough rain to make it delightful under the canopy of the trailer. Big campfire at night, singing, dancing and lots of laughing. Sounds like you guys headed to the right place for your hot days. Looks like fun. I'll definitely keep Ang in my prayers all the time. Love to you all! Mom
